THE GAME - Patch Notes
from patch 2.0.0 to 2.5.0

STATUS: Released 07/05/2011!!!

Patch changes:

General:
Two new spots will be added to the board; ”the substitute spots”. This will make a major difference in gameplay, since it will effect every stage of the game. The new rules will work like this:

Round 1
After the players have placed their Card of Death, they will place 2 substitute cards in the substitute spots – faced up so both players can see them. They then continue as usual and draw 6 cards on hand. Next, they both roll a die: the one with the lowest eyes on the die has to start. The player then has to choose if he wants to substitute cards from his hand with the cards on the substitute slots (he can choose to substitute 1, 2 or none). If he chooses to substitute, he must place the card from the substitute slot on the board, still faced up. The player must also place a card from his hand on the substitute spot (where the substitute card earlier was placed) , faced up and upside down - this card can not be used again. When the player is finished, the opponent must do the same. Then they both continue as before; place cards from their hand on the board (hidden from the opponent) until there is a total of 4/8 cards on the board (5/9 included Card of Death) and then reveal.

Round 2
After they have counted up points from their cards with dice, they cut their deck in two halves as usual. Then they discard their unsubstituted cards, and place new substitute cards, depending on how many the player substituted in round 1 (if 1 card was substituted, you will draw 1 new card to the substitute slots. If 2 cards were substituted, you can´t draw any new substitute cards. If you didn’t draw any substitute cards, you must draw 2 new cards). Then the same steps as in round 1 will be repeated: draw 4 new cards to your hand, roll a die (unnecessary if one or both substituted 2 in the past round), substitute, place cards ( 8/8 ) and reveal.

Round 3 – Card of Death
Now every slot on the board has been filled, and it is time to turn over ”the Card of Death”. Both players turn over their cards at the same time, however: if a player has a substitute card left, he/she may do a last switch if they want (if both players have a substitute card left: roll a die – lowest must choose first). After both players have substituted, they sum up the score and the one with the most wins (no shit).

I feel these changes will do "The Game" a great boost, improving these attributes to the game:
  • Improving the tactical choices throughout the game, making it possible to know which cards the opponent will play in the 1. round (and in the start of the 2. round), making it easier to adjust your cards in proportion to the opponents cards.
  • Making more cards available to play, making it easier to follow through your tactic and not play random highscored cards.
  • Difficult choicemaking regarding substitutes: is it smart to reveal your tactic in the 1. round? Is it smart to spare a substitute to the 3. round? etc. - There are lots of different ways to play subtitutecards!
  • Will neccesarily prevent the Card of Death being so random as it previously was.

Since substitutes is a big and advanced change and therefore a bit difficult to explain, I have made an example of how substitute cards can be used:

Patch 2.5.0 released! Eksemp15---->Patch 2.5.0 released! Eksemp10
Round 1:The player has now placed his/her Card of Death, two substitute cards and drawn 6 cards on hand. As the player placed his/hers cards on the board, the player chooses to substitute Leo with Savannah Brown, as it probably will improve his score. He chooses not to substitute The Ninja.

Patch 2.5.0 released! Eksemp11----> Patch 2.5.0 released! Eksemp12
Round 2: Since the player didn't use The Ninja, that particular substitute card will now be discarded in round 2, bringing in a new one: Ken. As you can see, the player chooses not to substitute Ken, probably because he/she feels his/her hand is good enough to beat the opponent. As we can see, he/she had a decent hand.

Patch 2.5.0 released! Eksemp13 ----> Patch 2.5.0 released! Eksemp14
Round 3: Oh noes! The player's Card of Death was The Blunderbuss! This will heavily decrease his/her score, since 3 animals are already placed on the board. But do not worry! Since the player still has a substitute card available, he/she can substitute Ken for The Blunderbuss, thus improving his/her score. Well done, player!
